Ten men Buxton lose to South Shields

Paul Blackett scored 2 goals against ten men Buxton with Jak McCourt getting sent off for dissent.

Buxton's Diego De Girolamo, celebrating his 200th appearance, came close to opening the scoring early on, striking one post before it came across and hit the other post after a precise pass from Tommy Elliott.

Former Buxton player Mackenzie Heaney narrowly missed the target with a freekick, marking South Shields' first attempt on goal.

Elliott went very close to grabbing a goal after McCourt found him running into the box with a cross and he couldn’t quite get any power on his header with Myles Boney catching the ball.

Martin Smith then up the other end had a shot blocked by 2 Bucks defenders before Will Jenkins tried to place his shot looping it over the bar.

Blackett gave the visitors the lead in the 33rd minute after Heaney beat 2 men to find Blackett in the box and despite getting a touch on it Joe Young was unable to keep it out as it went in for 1-0.

The first half ended with De Girolamo having two chances to level the score for The Bucks, but he failed to convert, leaving them trailing by a goal at halftime.

The second half saw Buxton reduced to ten  men after Jak McCourt was sent off for dissent in the 59th minute. McCourt's verbal altercation with the linesman led to his dismissal, further complicating Buxton's task.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Buxton continued to press forward, with center back Max Hunt attempting a long-range volley in the 70th minute, which sailed wide of the target.

In the 76th minute, Buxton goalkeeper, Joe Young, showcased his agility and quick reflexes, racing off his line to deny Aaron Martin, who was through on goal for the hosts.

With just six minutes remaining, South Shields capitalized on the ten men Buxton. Jenkins played a perfectly weighted pass through to Blackett, who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net, doubling the visitors' lead and securing the three points.

The late goal dashed any hopes of a Buxton comeback, as South Shields held firm in the final minutes to clinch victory on the road.
