Dronfield Town’s 2019-20 season got off to the best possible start with an outstanding 6-1 win over one of their main rivals from the previous campaign in Worsbrough Bridge.
A crowd of 121 basked in the sunshine at the HE Barnes Stadium as Chris Millington’s men proved unstoppable against their Barnsley-based opposition.
Town took 18 minutes to get off the mark – Ord converting from the spot after Danny Wood had been brought down.
Ord doubled his tally on 31 minutes as he breached the Worsbrough defence and slotted past Scott.
Dronfield went into the half time break three goals to the good as Conor Chappell found the net from distance, Worsbrough custodian Scott making a crucial error.
Things got even better just seven minutes into the second half as Ash Rawson secured Dronfield’s fourth with a looping header just inside the 18 yard box.
The game was wrapped up as a contest two minutes later. Matty Ord completed a fine hat-trick as he intercepted poor back pass to put Dronfield up by five without reply.
Ashley Emmett gave Worsbrough a consolation in the sixty fifth minute before youngster Ethan Flower completed Town’s rout on the stroke of full time.
Matty Ord collected the man of the match plaudits for his trio of goals as Dronfield now look forward to a road trip to Selby Town next Saturday.
