Dronfield Town slipped to a derby day defeat at the hands of local rivals Swallownest. Town were dominant in the first half taking the lead through Laurie Wilson but two second half replies saw the points go the way of the home side on National Non-League Day.
Town took the lead in the twenty fourth minute as Swallownest keeper Rich Watson’s clearance only went as far as a persistent Callum Mawbey, who squared for Wilson to find the open net.
The goal sparked a spell of Dronfield pressure. Four minutes later a long ball to Ord on the left wing saw his cross met by Wilson on the half volley, whose effort was chested off the line by Swallownest’s Aaron Statham.
Five minutes from the end of the half, Ord’s rising shot skimmed the angle of crossbar and post and just two minutes later, Wilson’s twenty yard effort was tipped over by the Swallownest custodian.
Town weren’t finished there. Charlie Stewart’s free kick was well saved by Watson, Stuart Hill missing the rebound with the goal at his mercy.
The encounter turned out to be the proverbial game of two halves as the home side fought back in the second period.
Lewis Naylor pulled off a series of saves in the first fifteen minutes of the half and things looked ominous when Alfie Smith’s curling right wing effort brushed the bar.
Swallownest got back on level terms on sixty two minutes as Alex Nightingale jinked into the box and fired in from twelve yards.
The home side took the lead on sixty five minutes as the same player burst through the centre of the Dronfield defence to make it 2-1.
A late sin-binning for Ash Rawson saw Dronfield down to ten men for the remainder of the game as Swallownest completed a first home win of the season.
Dronfield will look to bounce back on home territory with the visit of Ollerton Town next Saturday.
