PREVIEW: Spireites host Solihull Moors in Boxing Day clash


Chesterfield look to carry the momentum from Saturday’s 3-0 win over Torquay into the fixture with Solihull Moors.

 

The Opposition


Last season Tim Flowers’ side finished 2nd in the table and lost out to AFC Fylde in the play-offs.


The Moors have continued their good form into this season and currently sit in fifth place, seven points of leaders Barrow.

 

One-To-Watch


Paul McCallum- The 26-year-old started playing professionally at the age of 15 for Dulwich Hamlet in the Isthmian League Division One. McCallum scored 15 goals in 7 games which attracted the attention of various Premier League clubs and decided to sign for West Ham during the 2011-12 season.


He spent time on loan at various clubs such as AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot, Torquay Hearts and Portsmouth. The striker signed permanently for Leyton Orient in 2015 and scored on his debut.


Last season McCallum was a standout player for Eastleigh who made the play-offs, scoring an impressive 27 goals. He joined Solihull Moors in the Summer and has bagged 9 goals for far this campaign.

 

Previous Meetings


This will be the third time that the two sides have met. Last season’s Boxing Day fixture was the dramatic 4-0 defeat that eventually caused Martin Allen to be dismissed.


The reverse fixture was on New Years Day and resulted in a 2-2 draw, with goals from Marc Antoine Fortuné and Lee Shaw.

 

Team News


Robbie Weir might not be available after being taken off at half time against Torquay due to illness.


Josef Yarney is edging closer and will be assessed before the game.

On his opponents, Sheridan said: “They’re strong, organised and I think he (Tim Flowers) has done a good job there.”
