PREVIEW: Spireites face local rivals Notts County

Chesterfield look to make it three league wins on the spin as they face Notts County in front of the BT Sport cameras at the Proact Stadium.

The Opposition

County lost their Oldest Football League Team status when they made the slip into the fifth tier just this season.

However they have adjusted to life in the National League better than most, currently occupying a play-off place. The Magpies are also in good form, with four wins from their last five games.

One-To-Watch

Kristian Dennis- The former Spireite is County’s top scorer this season with seven goals.

The striker started off at Macclesfield Town before enjoying several spells in non-league before joining Chesterfield in 2016 who were in League One.

Dennis was transfer listed by Martin Allen after rejecting a new deal in search of a new club in the EFL. He joined Notts County for a reported fee of £150,000 and has had a spell on loan at Grimsby Town.

Previous Meetings

The two sides have met 68 times, the Spireites coming out on top 21 times. The last meeting was also under the television cameras.

The Spireites cruised to a 3-1 win which gave them their last hope of escaping the drop zone.

Team News

Despite picking up knocks on Saturday, Curtis Weston and Shwan Jalal will be back in contention for the clash with Notts County.

Sheridan’s Thoughts

John Sheridan was very complimentary of his side’s opponents, saying: “They’re a good team. I feel as though they are going to be around promotion at the end of the season.”

Will Evans also spoke to the press: “The noise and the atmosphere will be high and with the cameras it gives it an added boost.”
