PREVIEW: Reds looking to cement play-off spot against Southport

Alfreton Town will be looking to maintain their unbeaten home run as they welcome Southport to the Impact Arena.

The Reds currently sit in fifth in the Vanarama National League North and will be desperate to cement their place in the play-offs.

The Opposition

Southport are currently sat in 10th in the National League North, winning two, drawing two and losing two.

The Port started the season well having picked up eight points from four games. But in their last two games they were defeated, losing to Darlington and Telford.

One to Watch

Southport have the second best defensive record in the National League North this season, having only conceded 3 goals, and experienced defender Dean Winnard has be key to this.

Winnard played over 250 games for Accrington Stanley in League Two before joining Southport in 2018.

Alfreton have the joint best attack in the league, scoring 14 in their six games, but will have their work cut out for them to break down the Port’s solid backline.

Previous Meetings

The two sides have met 13 times in the past, with Alfreton coming out on top seven times, losing four and drawing twice.

Last season at the Impact Arena, the Reds came out on top with a 3-1 win with late goals from Tom Denton and Bobby Johnson claiming all three points.

Team News

Billy Heath has made minimal changes throughout the season and is unlikely to make any against Southport.

The Reds are currently injury free, with Danny East returning to the bench last time out against Guiseley.
