PREVIEW: Reds look to bounce back against Curzon Ashton

Updated: Sep 7, 2019

Alfreton welcome Curzon Ashton to the Impact Arena as they look to bounce back from defeat in midweek.

The Reds were on a four game winning streak before travelling to King’s Lynn on Tuesday. Alfreton were beaten 3-2 by the side who now sit top of the National League North.

The Opposition

Curzon Ashton have had a difficult start to the season as they currently sit in 17th with just 9 points from 9 games.

The Nash have won just twice so far this year and have lost four of their last five outings.

They have also failed to win on the road so far this year but will be looking to right that this weekend.

One to Watch

Midfielder Sean Miller has been the Nash’s main source of goals so far this year, having netted four in nine games this season.

Miller joined Curzon in January, netting three goals for the club last season, and has committed to the club once again this year.

Previous Meetings

Curzon Ashton beat Alfreton in both meetings last season, winning 1-0 at the Impact Arena before the Reds blew a 2-goal lead to lose 3-2 on the road.

In the eight meetings between the two sides, Alfreton have managed just two wins, losing four times and drawing twice.

Team News

Bobby Johnson was substituted just before half-time against King’s Lynn with a hamstring injury and is unlikely to feature this weekend.

Danny East is likely to replace Johnson as he did on Tuesday. It is unlikely that many other changes are to be made.

Managers Thoughts

Assistant manager Mark Carroll has asked for his players to pick each other up ahead of Saturday.

Carroll said: “We’ve had a great start to the season, we’ve got a great home record so the players need to pick each other up and go again on Saturday.”
