Buxton take on local rivals Matlock Town at the Silverlands looking to book their place in the final for the second year in a row of the Derbyshire Senior cup.

The Bucks

The Bucks go into this game following a victory on penalties against Derby County’s under 21s last week

McKeowns goal in normal time wasn’t enough as at fulltime it was 1-1 and went to penalties. Buxton scored all 4 penalties and Young saved 2 of Derbys to send them to this round.

Following the victory manager Craig Elliott said:

"After a disappointing start we managed to create opportunities and put pressure on County for the equaliser, who played very well at times and were no pushover.

It needed penalties but we deserved to go through and are building a decent run of results. It's good for the confidence of the lads."

The Bucks were due to play Blyth last weekend but it was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Opposition

The club sit 14th in the NPL Premier Division and have picked up 34 points from 26 games.

They lost their last game to Warrington Rylands with Ben Hough scoring a late winner.

Scott Boden will be unavailable for The Gladiators having played for The Bucks previously in this competition.

Their manager is Martin Carruthers who as a player played as a forward for a number of clubs in the football pyramid.

One to Watch

John Johnston joined Matlock from Guisley in October 2022.

The 29 year old winger has won titles with both Salford City and Altrincham in the National League North.

He has 4 goals so far this season.

Last Time Out

Matlock beat The Bucks narrowly in preseason after a first half spot kick proving to be the difference.
