Buxton secured back-to-back 2-1 home wins to start the season, with a late goal from Josh Popoola sealing the victory against Farsley Celtic in the 84th minute.
The match began with Buxton on the front foot, as Ethan Fitzhugh delivered a dangerous ball into the box in the 12th minute, earning the home side their first corner.
Farsley were then forced into an early substitution in the 17th minute, with Branson replacing the injured Walker.
Buxton continued to press, and in the 21st minute, Farsley had a chance with a free-kick that saw Danny Greenfield’s first-time shot narrowly miss the post.
Just a minute later, Tommy Elliott provided a cross to Ben Sault, who directed a header on target, but it lacked the power to trouble the goalkeeper.
The breakthrough for Buxton came in the 23rd minute when a defensive lapse allowed Connor Kirby to break through, setting up Sault to score and give The Bucks a 1-0 lead. Buxton dominated the first half with 76% possession, and they nearly doubled their advantage in the 39th minute when a Williams cross led to a corner that Fitzhugh just couldn’t capitalize on.
As the second half unfolded, Farsley came out stronger.
In the 60th minute, Popoola had a chance to extend Buxton’s lead, but his shot was saved by the keeper.
Farsley continued to press and eventually found an equalizer in the 76th minute, with Ben Atkinson scoring from a corner to make it 1-1.
They almost took the lead in the 82nd minute when Ryan Watson’s long-range effort hit the crossbar.
Buxton, however, kept pushing for a winner, and their persistence paid off. In the 84th minute, debutant Jack Stobbs delivered a ball to Tommy Elliott, who played it across to Popoola. The forward made no mistake, scoring the decisive goal to earn Buxton all three points.
With this win, Buxton continues their strong start to the season, next facing Darlington at home on Tuesday.
