NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH PREVIEW: BUXTON TRAVEL TO WARRINGTON TOWN

UP NEXT:

Buxton are actually on the road this week as they face Warrington Town on 21st December with a 3pm kickoff.

The Bucks

The Bucks go into this game after winning 2-1 against Farsley Celtic in an away game at their home stadium last week.

Two goals from Luke Brennan either side of a penalty from Farsley sealed all the points at the TSS.

Following the win manager John McGrath said:

"We weren't our usual forward-thinking selves and there's plenty to work on ahead of the busy Christmas period. It wasn't the greatest of performances but in the end we deserved victory.

"Well done Luke Brennan, whose second goal was phenomenal. At the other end of the pitch True Grant commanded his box brilliantly and was committed from start to finish."

17 year old Dovydas Sasnauskas joins on an initial one month loan from Sheffield United.

The Lithuanian is a defender that used to also be in the academy at Chelsea.

Opposition

The club finished 2nd in the Northern Premier League the season before last and won the playoffs to get promoted  to the National League North for the first time in their history after beating Bamber Bridge 1-0 in the final.

They went onto finish 12 in the league last season.

Warrington Town are nicknamed the yellows which ties in with their home kit colours.

The club was founded in 1949 as Stockton Heath by Jimmy Drinkwater.

The Club play their games at Cantilever Park which has a capacity of 3094.

They currently sit in 19th place in the league on 21 points after 22 games.

The Yellows manager is Paul Carden who is in his second spell in charge of the club having managed them previously between 2016-2021.

In their last game they won 3-1 against Camell Laird in the Cheshire Senior Cup. However they had the reverse scoreline in their last league game when they lost to Peterborough Sports.

One to watch

Jak McCourt joined Warrington in November on an initial loan period of 3 months.

He will be familiar to The Bucks fans having played for the club only last season after signing in January 2023.

The centre midfielder is known for his passing ability and is able to strike a ball with power often finding the back of the net from a long range.

Last Time Out

A night to forget for Buxton when in January this year Warrington put six goals past them at the TSS without reply to win 6-0.

Last time at this stadium it was an early goal from the hosts which was the difference with Matthew Grivosti scoring in under a minute.
