NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH PREVIEW: BUXTON TRAVEL TO SOUTHPORT

UP NEXT:

We are on the road facing Southport on 31st August 2024 with a 3pm kickoff.

The Bucks

The Bucks go into this game after losing 2-1 on Bank Holiday Monday to Marine.

Following the loss manager John McGrath said:

"We conceded two sloppy goals and didn't get going until the second half. Those two goals for Marine before the break meant an uphill second half for us, but we looked completely different after the break, particularly early on, often on the front foot.

"The problem is that we're failing the be effective in the final third for a full 90 minutes. After Monday's result, the lads were gutted and everyone is eager to put things right for Saturday. We'll be working at it all week."

Opposition

The club finished 17th in the league last season.

They play their games at Big Help Stadium which has a capacity of 5414.

The club are nicknamed The Sandgrounders.

They currently sit 18th in the league on 6 points from 5 games.

They appointed Jim Bentley at the end of August 2023 and went on to win their next 3 games under the ex Morecambe manager.

He has since signed a new deal at the club keeping him there until 2026.

They lost their last game 4-1 to Chorley.

One to watch

Marcus Carver rejoined the club on a permanent deal this summer.

The 30 year old forward has scored 12 goals last season at Southport whilst on loan from Scunthorpe for the second time.

Last Time Out

Loanee Ben Andreucci scored twice in a 2-2 draw that had late drama involving 2 Southport players getting sent off.
