NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH PREVIEW: BUXTON FACE WARRINGTON IN HUGE FINAL DAY CLASH

UP NEXT:

It’s the final game of the season for The Bucks as they are back at home on 26th April 2025 against Warrington Town.

The Bucks

The Bucks head into this game on the back of a 3-2 loss to Alfreton on Easter Monday.

The Bucks were 2-0 down after 18 minutes but started the second half well bringing it back to 2-2 after 5 minutes with goals from Luke Brennan and Cian Coleman. However a Jed Abbey freekick regained the lead for The Reds.

This now means it is no longer in Buxton’s hands to get the playoffs with them sitting in  9th place. The Bucks will have to beat Warrington and hope that two of Curzon Ashton, Hereford or Chorley drop points.

Curzon Ashton are at home to Leamington, Hereford are at home to Scunthorpe and Chorley travel to Rushall.

Opposition

Warrington Town originally went under the name Stockton Heath and it was only in 1961 that they changed their name.

They have three nicknames with The Yellows, The Town and The Wire all names that the club gets called.

The club play their games at Cantilever Park   which has a capacity of 3094.

Paul Carden is in his second spell in charge of The Yellows having previously been manager between 2016 and 2021 he returned to the club in September 2024.

In the 2014-15 season they reached the FA Cup second round which was the furthest they have got in this competition.

They won the playoffs in 2023 from the Northern Premier League and reached The National League North for the first time in their history.

The Yellows reached the quarterfinals of the FA Trophy in the 1992-93 season and were runners up in the FA Vase in the 1986-87 season.

Last season they finished 12th in the National League North on 64 points.

They currently sit 23rd in the league on 31 points from 45 games and have already been confirmed to be relegated this season.

In their most recent game they drew 0-0 with Southport.

Before this they lost eight games in a row and last won at the beginning of March against Rushall.

One to watch

35 year old Bohan Dixon is a 6ft4 midfielder that has made over 200 appearances for the club in two spells.

After previously winning the playoffs with the club in 2023 he joined Macclesfield before rejoining the club in June 2024.

He had a period in League Two with Accrington Stanley but has played a lot of football in non league.

Last Time Out

Joe Rodwell-Grant scored the only goal from a spot kick for the hosts in a 1-0 win for Warrington earlier on this season.

It was a night to forget for Buxton last time they face at the TSS with the visitors coming out 6-0 winners last season.

The Bucks haven’t won’t against Warrington since 2017.
