Substitute Matty Davies' strike just five minutes from time was enough to earn Staveley a point in a hard-fought battle against Penistone Church.
The Trojans went into the game knowing that if they bettered Bridlington Town's result they could move to the top of the NCEL Premier League.
One change was made from the side that lost in the Sheffield and Hallamshire cup midweek with Jon Frogatt replacing Kurtis Morley, who joins an ever-growing list of Staveley players on the treatment table.
Good news on the injury front is Sam Finlaw returned to the bench, having been expected to not see another game this month.
Just 16 minutes into the game, the visitors took the lead, Myles Wright blocked two efforts by Daniel Howes before the third was pushed into the path of Kieran Ryan who scored in the empty net for his first goal of the season.
The goal was the wake-up call that Staveley needed as the home side began to control the game. Despite the flurry of chances created nothing could be converted and the Trojans went in 1-0 down at half-time.
The second half started very much like the first ended, with Staveley in the ascendancy. Tomas Poole created a chance from out of nowhere with is effort from 20-yards bouncing off the underside of the crossbar.
The cheers were cut short, as the referee, Drew Dutton, waved away the goal saying the ball never crossed the line.
Sam Finlaw confirmed his return from injury with a 20 minute spell on the pitch where he topped off his performance with an assist when he played through Matty Davies.
The two substitutes combined on a quick free-kick allowing Davies a one-on-one opportunity against an oncoming Max Dearnley in the Penistone goal. His composure shone through and the chance was very calmly taken.
Based upon their second half performance alone, Staveley will be slightly underwhelmed with a point in a game they thoroughly deserved to win.
Nonetheless they continue their unbeaten run at home and move on to face Thackley away on Saturday 28th August 2018.
