On the eve of the new season, Chesterfield have announced that Will Evans has signed a new contract until the summer of 2021.
The new deal comes following a very successful season for the centre-back on a personal level as he received Chesterfield player of the year.
Evans joined the Spireites under Martin Allen from Aldershot and later scored a brace against his former side. Evans turned into some what of a cult hero following last seasons heroic performance against Ebbsfleet United when he scored the equaliser and saved a penalty in a pulsating 3-3 draw.
Evans has been impressive during pre-season alongside Haydn Hollis. A new contract shows the trust that John Sheridan has in the 27-year-old and he should prove to be a valuable asset for a Chesterfield side looking for promotion.
Like his manager, the goal scoring centre-back shares the same ambition in hoping that the Spireites push for a place in League Two. “Hopefully we can be up there and push for promotion,” he said.
“He’s been trying to drill into us about how he wants us to play this season. It’s vitally important that you always want to be winning.”
